Melt down.

I had one last night. I made it through five months of PHR preparation without a single tear shed (well until I saw Passed on the screen that is) and I only made it to week twelve in my MBA before having a melt down.

It's Economics. I will be the first to admit, I'm not a numbers person. I'm not good with money and I can own that. It just does not come easy for me. The graphs look like a four year old attempting Chinese to me. But I have worked so hard, trying to get a grasp on it. Last night I went into my test feeling decently prepared. I had read my chapters, memorized the typology chart, studied with my group, and mastered the practice exam our professor gave us. Then when the test was passed out, I blanked. I felt like there were maybe three questions (out of fifteen) that I answered correctly. About half way through the tears started coming. I pulled it together enough to not distract those sitting around me with my sobs, but as soon as I turned my test in they came again. One of my group members finished him test at the same time, but I couldn't stand for him to see me crying, so  I hurried to the bathroom for some tissue but couldn't keep the tears from streaming down my face before I get there. I just don't get it. I'm so frustrated.

In more positive MBA news, we started our first five-week leadership seminar. It replaces the time that was marketing (which I'm pretty sure I got an A in). I think I'm going to enjoy it. Dean Christian is already challenging our thoughts on leadership. We started off by coming to class with our StrengthsFinder 2.0 signature themes. Mine are: Futuristic, Harmony, Activator, Learner, and Discipline. None of these surprised me. I knew these things about myself, but I enjoyed how Rath gives you an action plan and a new way to look at your strengths, where I would normally just say "I like to plan," now I have a more in depth look at what that really means to my futuristic strength.

VIP status

Saturday there was concert in Hutto. My company was a sponsor of the event so we got "VIP tickets."
Dale Watson, Bob Schneider, Los Lonely Boys (and a few others that I wasn't really into) played.
It was a good time. I went with my office GBF, Anthony.
I figured it would be insanely hot, but they had big, portable AC units blowing in the tent so it was nice and cool.
Los Lonely Boys jammin' out.

The only problem...all they were serving (free by the way) was Budweiser, but that clearly didn't stop me. I'm a Miller girl myself. And I forgot a koozie, and the only one they had was a tu one.

World problems, I tell ya.

Happy Birthday Gran!

Today is this wonderful lady's 74th birthday!

I would not know what to do without her. She is a wonder role model and my biggest cheerleader. I love her so much!

We had lunch together on Sunday and I got her a new Polaroid camera!

The picture is still developing...
Today these should be arriving at her work.

I just love birthdays!

Worst Blogger Award Winner!

If there was an award for worst blogger of the year, I'm pretty sure I would win it!

Since the last time I posted I have finished my first MBA class! Marketing Management is officially in the books, and *fingers crossed* I got an A! I have mixed feelings about Marketing. The subject really intrigues me, and I enjoyed the types of projects we had, but there was so much busy work. I didn't really feel like the class was taught on a Master's level, and because there was so much fluff type work due every week, I (and I think most of the class) did not put a lot into Economics. So I'm really hoping with this class out of the way, I can start focusing on Econ.

Next Thursday we start Personal Leadership. I'm really excited about starting this class! I am a huge fan of all things leadership related. We had to take a StrengthsFinder 2.0 assessment and be able to describe our five signature strengths for the first class.

I really want to keep this blog a mix of MBA and personal life. How I am able to mesh the two, as well as work, and other responsibilities, but I don't think I can do a catch up. So I'll make a resolution that from today on, I will be a better blogger with my happenings! There's got to be an app for that, right?!
