Bastrop fires

My heart is heavy today. Much of my hometown is up in flames. Many family members and friends have lost their homes. So far everyone is safe, but all their belongings are destroyed.

Gran and I were in a movie Sunday afternoon. We saw The Help, which I absolutely loved and hoped to blog about, but that just feels to trivial right now. We both had no less than ten missed calls, voice mails, and texts when we got out, making sure we were safe. Sunday was fine for Gran's side of town but then another sparked about a mile from her home and she had to evacuate Monday morning. She was able to go back Monday night but still has to boil water for now.

Gran works at the local bank and so many people have come in this morning telling stories of their homes destroyed. Many people just don't really know yet. Communication has not been stellar. Several friends and family members have been able to get back to their property and thought yesterday that their homes were gone but know that their homes are safe! Thank you lord!

This is from the other side of Austin looking towards Bastrop.
